The shell namespace is a hierarchical organization of conceptual and file system objects that reside on your computer. The shell namespace is displayed in the left pane (the tree view) of Windows Explorer. This hierarchy has the "Desktop" object as its root, followed by child objects such as "My Computer", "My Network Places", "Control Panel", and so on.
All users are already familiar with the shell namespace in virtue of having used Windows Explorer before. This is one of the advantages in developing extensions to the shell namespace: where applicable, extending Windows Explorer to offer additional functionality to your users means there is no learning curve.
